Bariatric Center of Kansas City Updates:
Latest Updates from the Bariatric Center of Kansas City
- May 12, 2008 - BC of KC expands their business office to second location. Due to the greatly increased size of our weight loss surgery program, we have moved the business division of our bariatric services to another office suite located very near our clinic. This location will be used for the offices of the program coordinator and all staff involved with processing information related to prior approval and preparation of patient files before consultation with the surgeon. All new patients will be directed to come to Suite 312 of the Georgetown Building to fill out your paperwork on the day of your consultation with your surgeon before seeing him in the clinic in Suite 356.
- May, 2008 - SMMC signs multyear, multiplan contract with AETNA insurance company, which includes their PPO, POS, HMO, and other plans. Bariatric Center of Kansas City is now able to offer weight loss surgery for many more patients in the metropolitan area whose AETNA plans cover weight loss surgery.
- March, 2008 - SMMC President and CEO Samuel Turner announces that SMMC and AETNA Insurance Company have reached a multi-plan contract agreement that will allow AETNA members access to SMMC facilities and services beginning May 1, 2008.
- 2/08 - Just a reminder to all of our patients - be sure to follow up with your surgeon for your yearly visits after weight loss surgery. This means BOTH LAP BAND and GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS! Your surgeon wants to see you every year for life! Your surgeon keeps up with the latest data and recommendations for vitamin changes, lab values to follow and trends in bariatrics long-term, and we cannot take care of you if you do not follow up with us.
- January, 2008 Due to the large number of patient requests and time constraints on our staff, we regret that we will no longer be able to provide pre- and post-operative pictures for our patients. However, these will be available for you to review when you come in for your office visits, and if you want to bring in your own camera at your office visits, we would be more than happy to snap a photo of you!
- June, 2007 Shawnee Mission Medical Center re-signed a multi-year contract agreement with United Healthcare Insurance allowing UHC members to access SMMC facilities and services immediately. Our program remains contracted with United HealthCare for all forms - PPO, HMO, POS, etc. We can also perform weight loss surgery at Heartland Spine and Specialty Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas if allowed by your plan.
- 3/07 If you are one of our post-operative patients and experiencing any difficulty with weight regain, please do not hesitate to contact our office! We will be happy to counsel you one-on-one, refer you to the support persons necessary, evaulate you for any testing as needed, and help you get back on track. The means ANYBODY, no matter how long it has been since you've had surgery performed. There is no shame in weight regain, it happens to many patients, and it usually takes very few adjustments to help patients return to either losing weight or maintaining their weight loss. Just give us a call at 913-677-6319, ext. 2.
- 3/07 We know it can be hard to reach us through our phone system, but we want to remain accessible for each of our patients. We are evaluating a new system and ask that you please leave messages but know that we plan to return your calls, most by the end of the business day, and all within 24 hours. Just call 913-677-6319, and as established patients, press extension 2, and leave a detailed message, including the SPELLING OF YOUR LAST NAME, and your phone number. Thanks for your cooperation, and let us know how you like our new system!
- 1/07 - The Bariatric Center of Kansas City is proud to announce that we have performed our 1000th surgery since opening in December of 2002! A special thank you to the many talented and caring indivuals involved with our multidisciplary program, including the dieticians, therapists and nursing staff at Shawnee Mission. We appreciate their support and care of our patients.
- 10/06 Note to our Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Patients: All 6 month post-operative visits
involve a visit with our nurse educator in lieu of seeing your surgeon. This visit includes a thorough evaluation of your nutrional intake, vitamins, current lab results, exercise, general health status and any specific needs that you may have.
Your surgeon is seeing other patients in the office at the same time, so if we discover any
problems or concerns, he is available for consultation. We enjoy this valuable opportunity to review with you and help motivate patients to stay "on track."
- 9/06 We are attempting to involve more post-operative patients in the Doctors’ Informational seminars. If you would like the opportunity to speak on behalf of your surgeon, please let us know. Just email me at info@kcbariatric.com and I’ll add you to our waiting list. Your involvement only requires you to explain who you are and a little about yourself, i.e. how much weight you’ve lost, or why you had the surgery, or how your life has changed. You can field as few or as many questions as your feel comfortable. Bringing an article of clothing or photos to share is helpful but not required. Thanks!
